Douglas Porter Obituary

Douglas Edward Porter was born on September 17, 1952, in Denver, Colorado, to Jack and Twila (June) Porter. He passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the age of 73.

Doug was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beatrice. He married Joyce (Dezort) Ide on January 1, 1992, and they enjoyed 34 years together doing what they loved. Doug worked hard all his life and played even harder. He was employed at Aller & Pease, Henderson Ford and later retired from BSDC in 2014 after 24 years of service.

Together, Doug and Joyce traveled to many places, including Ireland, Hawaii, Alaska, Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., Lake Tahoe, and Redwood Forest, to name a few. They loved camping — or “glamping” — with all the luxuries of home in their fifth-wheel camper. Doug loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles; his current bike was a Tri Glide. He enjoyed deer hunting and processing his own bologna, jerky, and summer sausage — an annual tradition he looked forward to — and most recently went boar hunting with Vince this past year.

Doug was a man of service to his community and his country. He began in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He served in the United States Air Force from June 9, 1971, to June 6, 1975, including service during the Vietnam War. On April 19, 1984, he continued his commitment to our nation by joining the United States Army National Guard, where he was activated in Desert Storm, Hurricane Katrina, the El Salvador Humanitarian Mission, and many other assignments. He was a member of the 24th Medic unit and retired on September 30, 2012, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. Doug also served as an EMS for the Reserve Fire Department for the City of Beatrice and later with the Rural Fire Department.

Doug was a man of service to his family as well, always being present to help and celebrate with them. He was a true friend to many.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; brother-in-law Vince Dezort; sister-in-law Cody Farwell and husband Russ; brother Tim Porter; sister Jacqueline Porter; nephews Josh Robinson and wife Brandi, and Justin Robinson and wife Sydney; Jennifer Tuttle and husband James; Kari Von Busch and husband Nick; Haley Jacobs and husband Jermone; Breanna Walker and husband Ross; Christopher Porter; Joey Porter; Mike Krumenacker and wife Ally;  Nicholas Krumenacker; and Sarah Hart and husband Mike.

He is also survived by his great-nieces and great-nephews: Sawyer, Chase, Abigail, Dresden, Maddox, Sebastian, Emily, Lukas, Lilly, Jase, Noah, Devin, Caleb, Christopher, Kasen, Maddie, Hailey, Jack, and Jamie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Dale and Elaine Dezort; sister-in-law Mary Dezort; grandparents Oakley and Sarah Porter; Jack and Goldie June; William and Minnie Dezort; and Alfred and Clara Wagner.

Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.   Memorials are suggested to Vesta Cemetery.
